What is Neurofeedback Training?  Once the qEEG is done, the clinician prepares a protocol for Neurofeedback.  In the case of say having some frontal alpha (alpha waves found in the front portions of the brain); the protocol would be to down train alpha and up train beta.  Neurofeedback trains the brain to self regulate through operant conditioning.  Training consists of placing one or more sensors on the scalp which are connected to a computer.  The software in the computer detects and records specific brain activity.  This information is “fed back” to the trainee instantaneously – on a computer screen.  As activity in a desirable frequency band increases (or decreases depending upon the protocol), the video display rewards the trainee by moving faster, becoming brighter, etc. while the audio rewards with a sound. Gradually, the brain responds to the cues that it is being given, and a "learning" of new brainwave patterns takes place.  Once learning is consolidated, the benefits appear to be permanent in most cases.
