Lea is Board Certified in Neurofeedback through Biofeedback Certification (BCIA) She interned under the supervision of Joel F. Lubar, Ph.D. who has been practicing neurotherapy for 35 years and conducting qEEG training and analysis since the mid 1970's. He has published more than 135 papers and eight books in the fields of neuroscience and applied psychophysiology. Dr. Lubar was president of AAPB and ISNR. Currently, he is an associate editor of the Journal of Neurotherapy and he trains professionals to utilize qEEG and develop protocols for neurofeedback training.

A few years ago I was introduced to Neurofeedback (sometimes referred to as EEG Biofeedback) at a conference in Boston.  It was amazing and exciting to learn of yet another tool that I could use to help my clients achieve self-regulation.  The brain is an amazing organ!  And nowhere is it more evident than with Neurofeedback.  Research has shown that many conditions have been favorably influenced by Neurofeedback: Epilepsy, ADHD, Learning Disabilies, Anxiety, Brain Injury, Attention, Concentration, Sleep disorders, Addiction, Depression.

Brain Waves:

The brain basically produces four types of brainwave (electrical) patterns that can be detected and recorded near the scalp:  Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta.

Beta waves are prominent when we are concentrating or being productive; alpha is generally prominent in relaxed states in the posterior or back part of the brain; theta is found near sleep and delta is apparent during sleep.  When the brain is inefficient, these brainwave patterns appear at times and in places that can interfere with cognitions, emotions, integration of information, processing  and even motor functioning.
